Secretive and unaccountable government policies and practices have been a hallmark of recent immigration enforcement actions. To help shine a light on the immigration system, Open the Government is offering a training program during Colorado Migrahack 2019, to empower advocates, journalists, students and other interested communities to use Federal and State laws such the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to uncover facts about the interplay between local governments and the larger immigration system. Participants will work together to determine what type of data or records would be most useful for their work, then collectively create and file information requests seeking the information. OTG will act as a clearinghouse to track information requests, help with appeals, and analyze responses.
The workshop is open to all, regardless of whether or not you plan to stay and hack with us. The event is free, but space is limited so please register early!
Currently there is no separate RSVP for the FOIA workshop, so please just RSVP for the Friday Migrahack section and send us an email at mfjs@du.edu to let us know that you are planning to attend the workshop.
