DU’s Study Abroad

According to DU’s website, around 70 percent of DU students will study abroad during their college career, choosing from more than 150 DU Partner Programs in over 50 countries. DU has an Office of International Education to guide students through the process to find a fitting program, to apply, and to ensure all health and safety concerns are addressed. However, once the students are abroad, they are much more on their own and out of their comfort zone.

In this episode of The DU 80208 Podcast, we talk to students fresh out of their study abroad experience. We asked them about their motivation for picking their program, their favorite moments from abroad, and something they wish they knew before going abroad. Their answers all seemed to center around the idea that getting out of your comfort zone when going abroad actually helps a lot; it doesn’t matter if they were in Japan, Germany, Portugal, or London. The four students interviewed gave plenty of examples from grocery shopping in a foreign country to being in a big city for the first time. Of course, homesickness also played a factor. However, all the students also detailed how the unfamiliar culture brought some of the best parts of the experience, like meeting new people (even DU students) and the power in knowing how to navigate a foreign country. Listen to the podcast for more information on the students’ individual experiences.
