In this episode of the DU 80208 Podcast, Teddy Green and Julie Tran host another “Fun Time Friday.” This episode focuses on overlooked 2020 plotlines. The year 2020 was a hectic one, and people could not keep up with everything that was happening. In this episode, Teddy and Julie talk about some of those plotlines that may have been forgotten in the chaos of everything else.

In May of 2020, Elon Musk and Grimes welcomed their first child, but the Internet was in an uproar, making memes seconds after the name of the child was announced. The name of their child is X Æ A-12. People were theorizing how it is pronounced and wondering what the meaning of it was, but eventually, it was discovered that the name does not fit California naming guidelines.

“I guess California naming guidelines don’t allow children to be named after equations,” Green said.

The next plotline that Green and Tran brought up was the rumors and fear surrounding World War III. Though they don’t remember the event that caused the rumors and memes to start, Green and Tran remember the memes well. This all started at the beginning of 2020, starting off the year well. However, the trend suddenly stopped when the Internet could no longer keep up with 2020 and moved onto the next absurd 2020 plotline.

One of those plotlines was murder hornets. This also came up early in 2020 after two were seen in Washington in late 2019. The hornets are native to Japan and East Asia, but nobody knows how they got to the United States. These hornets are important to be aware of, as they can be very dangerous. They can hurt humans, like to eat bees, and are very invasive. While the Japanese honey bee has its ways of fighting off the Asian Giant Hornet, the bees in the United States did not evolve in the same way, and they have no way to fight them off.

On the topic of animals, one of the worst wildlife disasters in modern human history also occurred last year. The Australian wildfires burned 46 million acres and affected about 1.25 billion animals, according to the World Wildlife Fund. While Australia has a wildfire season every year, 2020 seemed to be out of control, in quite a scary way.

Though some may also find aliens scary, the Pentagon had no trouble releasing UFO files along with a statement saying that the Pentagon was disbanding a once covert program of investigating UFOs. Tran found out about this 2020 plotline from a quiz she took that told her what 2020 plotline she was. Green found it very interesting that this plotline never seemed to come up in mainstream news.

The year of 2020 seemed to focus a lot on aliens in the eyes of Green and Tran. They blame aliens for the metal monoliths that were popping up all over the world and seemingly disappearing as well. They can say with confidence that some were definitely stolen and would not be opposed to taking one for themselves, but ultimately, they blame aliens for the presence of these monoliths.

All of these plotlines and more are featured in this week’s “Fun Time Friday” episode. Feel free to email thedupodcast@gmail.com if you have any insights related to the conclusions of these plotlines, and tune in to listen next week.
